Doda Court issues non-bailable warrants against AAP MLA Mehraj Malik
JAMMU:
Following non-bailable arrest warrants issued by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Doda, the AAP MLA from Doda East, Mehraj Malik, on Tuesday, produced himself before the court.
Malik’s presence was sought by the CJM Doda in an old case pertaining to campaigning during the last assembly elections.
His lawyer, Advocate Mudasir Zarger explained the legal proceedings and the cases pending against MLA Malik.
He said that around 18 cases have been registered against the MLA, of which two have already been withdrawn at the initial stage.
Advocate Zarger further claimed that many of the cases against Malik were “fabricated”.
The MLA’s absence from the proceedings was due to his busy schedule and engagements in his constituency, he said.
Mehraj Malik said that there was an ADDC in Doda, Pran Singh, who got lodged a complaint against him during elections.
On September 7, Malik, who spent nearly eight months in prison under stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) for allegedly disturbing law and public order in Doda district, moved the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court seeking restoration of his security cover.
The High Court, while disposing of the petition, directed the respondents to consider the representations of the petitioner.
The Court directed the Security Review Coordination Committee to look into the threat perception of the MLA and take a decision within six weeks from the date of the court’s order.
