Sainik School Nagrota students sensitised on POCSO, child safety & gender sensitivity

Sainik School Nagrota organised an insightful and highly interactive Guest Lecture on POCSO, Child Safety and Gender Sensitivity for its cadets at the Zorawar Auditorium.
The session was conducted by Esther William, a renowned POCSO and Child Safety Activist and trained POCSO Trainer.
She served as the Principal of Alexander Memorial School, Jammu, for 36 years and is presently its Administrator. She is also associated with Sahyog India and has received several honours for her contribution to education and society, including the Rashtriya Gaurav Award and Lifetime Achievement Award.
During the session, William sensitised the cadets about various measures and safeguards available for child protection under the POCSO Act. She emphasised recognising unsafe situations, understanding personal boundaries, speaking up against inappropriate behaviour and seeking timely assistance.
A significant part of the lecture focused on gender sensitivity, with emphasis on the values of equality, dignity, empathy and mutual respect. The session went beyond a conventional lecture, incorporating interactive discussions, practical examples and role-play activities that enabled the cadets to understand and respond appropriately to situations related to personal safety, boundaries, communication and respectful behaviour.
The role-play exercises provided cadets with an opportunity to explore real-life situations in an engaging manner, while the interactive sessions encouraged them to ask questions, express their views and develop greater confidence in responding to situations involving safety and inappropriate behaviour.
The session witnessed enthusiastic participation from the cadets and proved highly informative and thought-provoking, enhancing their awareness of child safety, personal responsibility and gender-sensitive behaviour.
Capt (IN) Shibu Devasia, Principal, Sainik School Nagrota, expressed his sincere gratitude to Mrs Esther William for sharing her valuable knowledge and experience with the cadets. He appreciated her engaging methodology, particularly the use of role play and interactive activities, which made the session meaningful and relatable for the cadets.
