Army’s goodwill gesture; transit facility for nomads at Loran

Poonch, September 19:

In a humanitarian initiative under Operation Sadbhavana, the Indian Army has established a Temporary Transit Facility at Loran, Poonch, to support the seasonal reverse migration of the Gujjar and Bakkarwal community from higher reaches with the onset of winter.

The 15 day facility has been strategically established along the traditional migration route to provide essential support to the nomadic families during their transit. The facility offers basic amenities including accommodation, hot meals, safe drinking water, medical assistance, veterinary care for livestock and round-the-clock security arrangements.

On the first day of its operation, approximately 50 individuals, including 22 males, 13 females and 15 children availed the services highlighting the importance and positive response towards this initiative.

The Gujjar and Bakkarwal communities form an integral part of the cultural and social fabric of the Pir Panjal region. Through such welfare initiatives, the Indian Army continues to strengthen its bond of trust and cooperation with the local population.
