“India Does Not Forget”: Army Recalls Operation Mahadev, Vows Swift Retaliation on Pahalgam Attack Anniversary

Srinagar, April 22, 2026:
Marking one year since the deadly Pahalgam terror attack that shook the nation, the Indian Army on Wednesday reiterated its uncompromising stance against terrorism, invoking Operation Mahadev and warning of an “assured response” to any future provocations.
The anniversary commemorates the April 22, 2025 attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baisaran Valley, where 26 civilians, mostly tourists, were brutally killed by heavily armed terrorists linked to Pakistan-based groups. The incident had triggered nationwide outrage and a decisive shift in India’s counter-terror strategy.
In a strong message, the Army asserted that “India does not forget,” underlining its continued vigilance and operational readiness. Officials highlighted Operation Mahadev—a meticulously coordinated 93-day manhunt that culminated in the elimination of the attackers in July 2025—as a symbol of justice delivered through persistence and precision.
The operation, involving advanced surveillance, drone tracking, and joint coordination between the Army, Jammu & Kashmir Police, and central agencies, successfully neutralised the terrorists identified as key perpetrators of the massacre.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the victims, reaffirming that their sacrifice would not be forgotten and stressing India’s unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism. Across the political spectrum, leaders echoed similar sentiments, with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh issuing a veiled warning to Pakistan, cautioning that any further misadventures would invite consequences.
Security forces have significantly strengthened their presence in the region over the past year, expanding surveillance networks and establishing new operational bases to prevent infiltration and ensure rapid response capabilities.
The anniversary serves not only as a solemn remembrance of lives lost but also as a stark reminder of the persistent threat of cross-border terrorism. With its firm messaging and demonstrated military resolve, India has made it clear that any attempt to destabilise peace will be met with swift and decisive action.
As the nation reflects on the tragedy, the message from its armed forces remains unequivocal: justice will be pursued relentlessly, and those who threaten India’s security will face the full force of its resolve.
