Wounds haven’t healed yet, people haven’t accepted Article 370 abrogation; J&K CM Omar Abdullah

The chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah, on Wednesday, said that the wounds inflicted by revocation of Article 370 on August 5, 2019 have not yet healed and the people have also not reconciled with the abrogation of the special status.

The seventh anniversary of Article 370’s abrogation touched raw nerve of the CM and other politicians from NC, PDP and Congress.

Omar Abdullah reiterated his commitment to reversing the Centre’s decisions, saying the ruling National Conference has not accepted the “current circumstances”.

In a post on X handle, Abdullah said, “Seven years, we haven’t forgotten and we haven’t reconciled far less accepted our current circumstances.”

My party and I remain committed to reversing all that was done to J-K that took away our rights and threatens our identity, he said.

He ended his message with a line from American poet Robert Frost’s ‘Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening’, “The woods are lovely, dark & deep. But I have promises to keep. And miles to go before I sleep…..”

The BJP-led central government abrogated Article 370 on August 5, 2019, ending Jammu and Kashmir’s special status under the Constitution of India.

“Wounds remain raw. They have not healed yet. We hoped that they would apply balm on our wounds and at least the promise of statehood will be fulfilled. However, that promise also remains unfulfilled even after seven years,” he told reporters in Surankote.
