5 killed as SUV plunges into Chenab in Kishtwar

Jammu: At least five people were killed on Saturday after a Mahindra Scorpio plunged into Chenab River in Kishtwar district, officials said.

Kishtwar DC Pankaj Kumar Sharma said that the accident occurred around 10.30 AM

MoS (PMO), Dr Jitendra Singh said on X, “Spoke to DC #Kishtwar, Sh. Pankaj Kumar Sharma, after receiving the report of a road accident in the Dachhan area, involving a Scorpio vehicle which rolled down into a deep gorge at Yaivan. Unfortunately, all the 5 passengers travelling in the vehicle lost their lives on the spot. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families.”

The accident reportedly occurred at around 10.30 a.m. on Saturday. The vehicle, identified as a Scorpio with registration number HR29AG-0648, rolled down into a deep gorge at Yaivan near Tender Nallah, Dachhan.

Five people travelling in the vehicle died on the spot. The identities of the deceased have not been revealed by officials yet.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has condoled the loss of lives in the tragic road accident.

In a condolence message, the Lieutenant Governor has said: “Pained by the loss of five lives in a tragic road accident in Dachhan, Kishtwar. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Have directed the District Administration and senior officials to ensure immediate assistance is provided to those affected”.
