Jammu, 17 August 2026: To improve passenger amenities and further strengthen rail operations, work on the Trip Shed Extension Project at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra in the Jammu Division of Northern Railway is progressing rapidly. The main objective of this expansion is to augment the existing maintenance facilities and increase the locomotive handling capacity at Katra Railway Station.

Key Features of the Project
Under this expansion, 2 additional bays and 2 pit lines are being constructed in the Trip Shed. Once completed, a total of 6 locomotives will be able to simultaneously undergo maintenance and technical inspections in this Trip Shed.

Construction work at the project site is going on swiftly. As per the latest progress report, the work is moving forward within the stipulated time frame.

Sharing details about this important project, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Jammu, Shri Vivek Kumar said, “The expansion of the Katra Trip Shed is a significant step towards enhancing the operational capacity of Jammu Division. The project is being closely monitored to ensure its timely completion and seamless integration with the existing infrastructure.”

This expansion will strengthen the Railway’s maintenance infrastructure. It will also enable more efficient inspection and servicing of engines, leading to major improvements in train punctuality and operational safety. Upon completion of the project, maintenance of trains originating from Katra will become faster, and devotees and passengers visiting Mata Vaishno Devi will get a more reliable and safer travel experience.

As a result, the millions of passengers coming to Katra (Shri Mata Vaishno Devi) will be assured of smooth, safe, and modern rail services without any technical delays.
