JAMMU:
US Ambassador to India, Sergio Gor arrived in Leh on Thursday and indulged himself in a rafting adventure at the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus rivers, said officials.
“The US envoy reached Leh on Thursday and head to Nimu where in took part in river rafting on the confluence of Zanskar and Indus rivers. He rafted several downstream upto Tsogti”, officials said.
The US envoy is likely to meet LG VK Saxena before returning to New Delhi.
Gor’s visit is first ever by any US diplomat to the Himalayan region following ugly Galwan clash in eastern Ladakh between Indian and Chinese armies on June 15, 2020.
Gor’s visit is also the first by any top US diplomat to Ladakh after the region was carved out as a separate union territory in 2019.
The US ambassador had called Jammu and Kashmir an important part of India on Wednesday, a statement which didn’t go down well with Islamabad, which summoned the US Charge d’Affaires and lodged a “strong demarche”.
