MBBS and BDS interns staged a protest at the Government Medical College (GMC) OPD today, demanding an increase in their monthly stipend.

They have launched an indefinite strike seeking hike in their stipend and better working conditions.

The protesting interns said they are currently receiving ₹12,300, which they claim is insufficient to meet their basic living expenses.

The interns are demanding that the stipend be increased to ₹30,000. According to the protesters, they have been raising this demand for nearly six to seven years, but their concerns remain unresolved.

It may be stated here that several states and UTs across India provide Rs 35000 to Rs 45000 stipend to intern MBBS and BDS doctors

The protest affected routine services at the GMC OPD.

Dr. Imran highlighted the interns’ concerns, their long-pending demand and the reasons behind today’s demonstration.
