Desktop simulator for training loco pilots in Jammu

Safe and efficient train operation is given top priority in Indian Railways, and in this direction, an important and commendable initiative is being taken by the Jammu Division of Northern Railway.

With the aim of further improving the training and efficiency of Loco Pilots in the division, a state-of-the-art Desktop Simulator will be installed.

This simulator will be installed at the Jammu Lobby, so that the Loco Pilots of Jammu Division will be able to get world-class training facility at their workplace itself.

What is a Desktop Simulator and its benefits:

This Desktop Simulator is a training system based on advanced technology, through which Loco Pilots will be able to be given training in accordance with real operational conditions. The major benefits of this simulator are as follows:

1. Experience of real conditions: Through this simulator, Loco Pilots will be able to get a virtual experience of various types of operational conditions such as dense fog, heavy rain, landslide, signal failure and other adverse conditions.

2. Efficiency in Signaling and Braking: In-depth practice of the signaling system, braking techniques and locomotive operation will be imparted in the simulator, which will increase the technical efficiency of the Loco Pilots.

3. Ability to handle emergency situations: This simulator will be extremely helpful in developing the ability to take quick and safe decisions in case of emergency situations like brake failure, overshooting, sudden obstruction on the track. This will reduce the possibility of accidents to a great extent.

4. Safe and economical training: Without the consumption of fuel and resources during training on a real locomotive, repeated practice can be done on this simulator. It is a safe, economical and environment-friendly method of training.

5. Regular skill development: This facility will make regular training, refresher courses and skill development of new Loco Pilots more effective. Loco Pilots will be able to identify their shortcomings and rectify them.

Awareness programs are also being organized by Jammu Division recently regarding the mental health and welfare of Loco Pilots. In such a situation, this initiative to strengthen training facilities is considered an important step towards safe and efficient train operation.
