Suspicious Scorpio jumps security check in Ramban, seized after massive search
Jammu, Aug. 7: A major security alert was triggered in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district in the early hours of Friday after a suspicious Scorpio vehicle allegedly breached a police security checkpoint at Chanderkote and fled towards the Nashri area, prompting an extensive search operation involving multiple security agencies.
The incident occurred around 3.30 am when the Scorpio, bearing registration number JK02AK-1743, was travelling from Srinagar towards Jammu at a time when security arrangements remain heightened due to the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.
According to police, personnel deployed at the Chanderkote security naka signalled the vehicle to stop for checking. However, the driver allegedly ignored the instructions and sped away. In an attempt to intercept the vehicle, police fired three rounds, but it continued towards the Nashri-Dalwas stretch.
Following the incident, district police, the CRPF and the Army launched a coordinated search operation, setting up additional checkpoints and intensifying surveillance in the area.
Senior Superintendent of Police, Ramban, Arun Gupta, supervised the operation on the ground. He said the suspicious Scorpio was later traced and seized near Dalwas.
“The district police have seized the suspicious Scorpio near Dalwas. Further investigation is underway, and detailed information will be shared as the investigation progresses,” the SSP said.
The occupants of the vehicle and the reason behind their attempt to evade the security checkpoint were not immediately known. Police are examining all possible angles, including whether the incident has any security implications, particularly in view of the ongoing Amarnath Yatra.
Security has been further tightened across the district, and investigations are continuing. No official statement has yet been issued regarding any arrests or recovery from the vehicle.
