VDG killed, another injured in Udhampur

JAMMU:

A Village Defence Guard (VDG) was killed and another injured by a fellow VDG, who opened fire from his weapon, a self loading rifle in Pancheri area of Udhampur district on Friday, said officials.

“The accused VDG has been arrested and booked under section 103 of the BNS,” said a police officer.

The accused VDG has been identified as Surjit Singh, 35,  while deceased as Baldev Singh, 38 years and injured VDG as Romesh Singh, 34.

Reports stated that three men were on their way Damnot police post of Pancheri when they had some heated arguments followed by a scuffle.

In a fit of rage Surjit Singh opened fire from his SLR killing Baldev Singh on the spot and wounding Romesh Singh.

The accused Surjeet Singh was a resident of Sasri Damnot.

The SHO informed that the condition of the injured VDG was stated to be stable.

The police have initiated a detailed probe into the incident to know the circumstances surrounding it.
