JAMMU: April 27:
After a long wait of over seven months, AAP MLA from Doda East and president of the J&K AAP unit, Mehraj Malik, known for his motor mouth, walks free from Kathua district jail.
Justice Mohammad Yousuf Wani of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, on Monday, quashed the public safety act (PSA) detention against Malik.
“The high court has quashed the PSA of Mehraj Malik. We have won the case,” said advocate Appu Singh Salathia, AAP spokesperson.
“The high court judgment has bolstered our faith in the judiciary. It was a tough journey for all of us but we have won. Advocate Rahul Pant, Advocate Zulqarnain Choudhary and other members of the team fought the case on merits,” she said.
On February 23 the Jammu and Kashmir & Ladakh High Court had reserved its order on a petition seeking release of jailed AAP MLA.
Malik, who is the AAP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit president, was detained under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) on September 8 last year for allegedly disturbing public order and was subsequently lodged in the Kathua jail.
